Fight for Faith – Week 1: Getting What We Want (1 Samuel 8-10)
Think back to you five years ago. Have you learned a lot since? We don't know what's best, but we still demand that God do what we ask. In our first week of our new study, Fight for Faith, we see how the Israelites told God what they wanted, and how He gave them what they wanted even though He knew it was not what's best for them.

"Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah and said to him, "Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.""
1 Samuel 8:4-5

The Blessed Life – Week 31: Truth and Wisdom (Matthew 7:24-27)
Gravity will pull you down even if you believe you can fly. It's a physical law that applies to everyone. Manufactures put warning labels on products to inform you of other truths so you don't harm yourself, like “Don't use a hairdryer in the bath tub.” Similarly, God has created moral truths that affect everyone, and Jesus gives us warnings to inform us of those truths so that we can choose to live the way we were designed to. Are you following the warning label?

"And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock."
    Matthew 7:25

The Blessed Life – Week 30: Examining Our Foundation (Matthew 7:24-27)
Big beach houses are beautiful and coveted, but when storms come they can fall over because their foundation is in sand which isn't solid. Jesus uses this example to describe our lives if not founded in a relationship with Him. When a storm or crisis come into your life, will your house fall or will it stand?

"And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it."
    Matthew 7:26-27

The Blessed Life – Week 29: Religion or Relationship (Matthew 7:21-23)
Not everyone will enter Heaven, not even everyone who does good things or who says Jesus is God. We will not be welcomed into the Kingdom of God through our own merit, but with a relationship with Jesus.

"And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'"
    Matthew 7:23

Does wearing a dog costume make you a dog? Of course not. Similarly, being a disciple of Jesus is not about doing or not doing certain actions, but about who you are and your character. Are you letting God change who you are?

"You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?"
    Matthew 7:16

The Blessed Life – Week 27: The Way Less Traveled (Matthew 7:13-14)
On one hand, Christianity is exclusive because only believers in Christ will be saved. However on the other hand, Christianity is completely inclusive because anyone can become a believer.

""Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." Matthew 7:13-14

The Blessed Life – Week 26: The Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12)
The golden rule is widely accepted as good moral teaching, but we tend to modify its meaning or not apply it to everyone. The golden rule as Jesus presents it is very different than other moral teachings, it's difficult to put into practice, and it requires God's transformative power.

""So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."
    Matthew 7:12

The Blessed Life – Week 25: Persistent Prayer (Matthew 7:7-11)
God calls us to pray like a preschooler ask for things from their father: persistently and trustingly. God wants us to pray so that He can use our prayer to change our hearts.

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
    Matthew 7:7
